Myth or Fact? Castor Oil For Long Lashes
With Some Oil, a Mascara Brush, and a Little Patience...
Will regularly applying castor oil cause your lashes to grow?
This was a suggestion that I even heard professionals in my field promote, but upon some quick (and readily available) research, the science behind it simply says: NO.
This one is a myth.
The oil will, however, strengthen them and prevent breakage - because adding moisture, in this case, is always a good thing! The application of the oil can give your lashes a darker appearance, making them look more luscious, but overall, they only continue to go through their growth cycles as normal.
I think that castor oil can be a great addition to your routine if you’re coming off of something damaging like eyelash extensions. I started off with dry, brittle lashes after 18 months of steady appointments, and after nightly application of cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil for 2 months, my lashes were back to looking healthy.
Just make sure you’re using one from a dark, glass bottle and avoid it entirely if you’re prone to getting styes!
