Happy New Year all! I hope everyone had an excellent start to their 2025! I wish you an abundant, successful year with positive memories made.
I wanted to look at what’s going on in my industry in 2025. As we enter a new year, the skincare landscape is ever-evolving with innovative treatments, ingredients, and products. Below are some notable ones I wanted to get into…
Minimalism
As a whole, I think we’re all continuing to shift toward skincare minimalism: buying only what we need and investing in quality products that serve multi-purpose functions. I love it, and I think it’s wise to continue down this path.
We’re moving toward trusting professionals more. Avoiding painful procedures when possible. And opting for holistic, natural treatments.
Biotechnology in Skincare
It sounds serious, but it’s really pretty fascinating! Lab technology is used to extract natural ingredients and put them through a fermentation process to create higher-quality or high-performance ingredients.
This doesn’t mean artificial or synthetic versions of those ingredients, though. This is, instead, an exact replication. In some cases, it can make a product more absorbable, more tolerable for the skin, and even available to the masses when it would previously be too expensive and out of reach.
Polydeoxyribonucleotide …Huh!?
You’re going to hear a lot about this one - it has proven anti-inflammatory properties and soft tissue regeneration. It is the latest “fountain of youth” out of Korea.
Currently, there is no information I can find that shows FDA approval for anything other than inflammation, and no approved products are on the market today. Then there’s also the fact that it’s derived from salmon sperm….
Buzz Words and New Brands
There’s a lot of buzz around phrases like “barrier building” this year. A lot of it is nothing more than catchy marketing to sell products. Think: “Glass skin,” the last trend to take the internet by storm … which wasn’t a skin goal quite as achievable as someone who has something to sell you would like you to believe.
Beware of a lot of new brands that haven’t paid their dues! A lot of new kids on the block (brands like Mantle and Mother Science) just don’t have the years of studies to back up their claims.
While natural ingredients that we all recognize – and can pronounce!- can absolutely be beneficial, please ensure there’s an active ingredient in there somewhere that will target your specific skin concern before you pay $89 for that ounce of rice water facewash.
Exosomes
Exosomes work as tiny particles that, when released by cells, will transport vital proteins to grow or rejuvenate skin cells. This encourages the skin to heal itself faster and rebuild collagen.
This therapy is ideal for adding to advanced treatments such as microneedling, injectables, laser treatments, or even being infused in products like serums.
These current trends reflect a desire for simplification and sustainability while also maintaining efficacy. I’m excited to check a few out. I hope that if you do, you’ll come back and comment to share your experience!
